There are thousands of children in the state of New Jersey who are in desperate need of a loving and stable family. Many of these children have endured abuse and neglect, and have spent most of their lives being uprooted. As a result, they may have some behavioral, emotional and/or learning issues. Children's Aid and Family Services provides Therapeutic Foster Care for these children, who simply want a loving family to be there for them day after day.
Therapeutic Foster Care is different from traditional foster care because parents receive extensive training to learn how to care for children with behavioral, emotional and/or learning issues. Therapy, psychiatric services, case management, and educational monitoring are just a few of the ongoing support services provided to treatment foster families, along with 24-hours a day, seven days a week emergency assistance. Further, treatment foster parents receive a higher monthly stipend because of the special therapeutic care they give, and Medicaid provides medical and dental coverage for the child.
