The best place for your child
Since our establishment more than 30 years ago, Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center has become Bergen County’s childcare center of choice for thousands of families. Turrell, a fully licensed, accredited, nonprofit child care center, has large sunny classrooms, a comprehensive curriculum, and freshly prepared nutritional meals and snacks. We also offer many special extras, like a children’s garden, a dedicated indoor infant playroom, book and toy libraries, enrichment programs, parenting workshops, state-of-the-art outdoor playgrounds, and a large indoor gym for year-round play.
From 8 weeks to kindergarten
Whether you have a brand new baby who needs tender loving care, a 3-year-old who is preparing for independence, or a kindergartner who must learn elementary school fundamentals, Turrell is the best place for your child – and you. Not only do we give your child a safe and enriching environment in which to explore, learn, and grow, but we’re here to give you the support you might need to juggle the demands of family, work, and home.
Security and safety matter
Children are supervised at all times, indoors and outdoors, and security cameras are located on the playground areas, as well as the parking lot. Entry to the building is security-controlled and requires proper identification. The children are signed in and out as they move from classroom to playground and at arrival and pick-up times. Our staff is trained in CPR and first aid. In keeping with our policy of prioritizing the security and safety of the children in our care, we have a close relationship with the Paramus Office for Emergency Preparedness and adhere at all times to the strictest possible safety standards. These standards are independently reviewed on a regular basis by our national accrediting body, the Council on Accreditation.
Educational excellence and top-quality infant care
Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center is fully licensed and accredited and is not part of a chain or corporation. Turrell is a division of Children's Aid and Family Services, a local, nonprofit human services agency with a focus on helping people succeed and thrive. All decisions about Turrell are made locally, not in some far-off corporate boardroom. We never need to juggle staff between centers. And we’re more affordable than most corporate centers. Most important, children receive top-notch care and education while they’re here. In fact, the vast majority of children who enter at infancy stay through pre-K, and many of their parents report they continue to excel in school after graduating from Turrell.
A curriculum that challenges and prepares
Our age-appropriate curriculum integrates academic, emotional, physical, and social learning. Children learn quantitative concepts, language, music, art and rhythm to build fine and large motor skills, as well as social skills. Our pre-K program prepares children for kindergarten, and we offer a state-certified all-day kindergarten. Each classroom is equipped with two “Young Explorer” computers that provide age-appropriate educational activities and games. A variety of enrichment programs, such as music, gymnastics and Spanish, are also offered. And because so much of a child’s ability to learn depends on nutrition, all our meals and snacks are cooked by our own chef and provide approximately 75 percent of children’s daily nutritional requirements.
We’ll baby your baby
We accept babies from 8 weeks old, and our child-teacher ratio is 1 to 4 in the infant rooms. Our nurturing “home away from home” rooms are beautifully equipped with rocking chairs, cribs, and age-appropriate toys to make your baby as comfortable as possible. Cleanliness is paramount: all equipment is cleaned and sanitized regularly throughout the day. All children grow and develop at their own pace, and we allow each infant to follow his or her own individual schedule.
Here’s what our parents are saying
“The teachers take wonderful care of the children, and it shows as they go running into class with big smiles on their faces, ready to start a new day with their friends.”

~Gayle McKenna

“Placing our son in Turrell brought my husband and me peace of mind. It allowed us to go to work without worrying that his needs were being met. We saw for ourselves he was safe, happy and growing both socially and developmentally.”

~Malissa Jockish

Our teachers come...and they stay
Your child will be nurtured and educated by caring teachers who have extraordinary experience and who have been with Turrell for many years, providing a continuity of care that is so important for children. Our teachers stay at Turrell because they are valued, appreciated and given the tools they need to teach effectively. Our director has been here since 1978 and has built a strong, stable team that shares a home-school partnership philosophy and approach to teaching.
We simplify child care
We’re centrally located just off Route 17 in Paramus (close to Route 4 and the Garden State Parkway) and have ample parking. We are open Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Your child may attend on a full-time or daily basis. We are open all 12 months of the year. We also offer a camp program for your child’s older siblings in the summer and during school breaks.
