Things to Consider Before You Adopt

Adoption and Foster Care

Since 1899, Children's Aid and Family Services has brought children together with adoptive families. We believe that every child deserves a loving family and we provide comprehensive training, services and support to help these new families succeed.

Families and children can count on us before, during, and after the adoption process. Our connection does not end when the adoption becomes final. That means that a year, five or thirty five years from now, we are going to keep records of all adoptions and an open door to every member of the adoptive family. Every year, we host a party for adoptees, their families and the foster families who cared for them before adoption. Every new family becomes a member of our "extended adoption family."

We are more than an agent that processes legal paperwork. In addition to having masters degrees, our social workers are dedicated to giving children and families tools to be happy and healthy. Often adoptees and their families continue to reach out to our social workers years after an adoption becomes final. Adoption staff is always available for consultation and referral services should any concerns arise.

Children's Aid and Family Services received a grant from the Dave Thomas Foundation's adoption recruitment program, Wendy's Wonderful Kids. This partnership enables us to fund another full time recruiter focused on finding families for school aged children. Another partner in our efforts to find families for children is the Heart Gallery of New Jersey.
