The Gift of Family

Jeremy was 6-years-old when he was removed from his parents' home. They abused drugs; Jeremy suffered terrible abuse and neglect. He came to Children's Aid and Family Services and began living in one of our group homes for children in foster care.

Jeremy was very angry and had difficulty controlling his emotions. Although he was still a little boy himself, he was used to taking care of himself and his sisters. At the group home, he had difficulty accepting direction and guidance from the staff.

To help him learn to handle his emotions, stress and anger, Jeremy received individual and group therapies. He participated in yoga and basketball. Jeremy was also struggling in school, and the agency provided tutoring help for him. His grades began to improve and his confidence grew.

After 18 months in the group home, Jeremy was able to leave and join his sisters in an adoptive home. Both he and his adoptive family still receive individual and family therapy from Children's Aid and Family Services. Jeremy has been using his newly developed social and behavioral skills to bond with his adoptive family and succeed in life.

As we approach the holidays, we thank you for making these stories of hope possible with your support of Children's Aid and Family Services. Your support helps us provide therapies that help children such as Jeremy heal.
