(Paramus, NJ) September 10, 2007 - A baseball mitt signed by a legendary hall-of-famer, a 2-hour home design consultation, a behind-the-scenes tour of a major television network, a personal photo session with a professional photographer, admission passes to the Meadowlands racetrack, tickets to a New York Jets football game, a United States flag that been flown over the United States Congress - these and many more exciting and exclusive opportunities and experiences are all available for bid at the silent auction at Children's Aid and Family Services' "Wine & Food Tasting Evening" on Saturday, October 20, 2007, at St. Leon's Church, on Saddle River Road, in Fair Lawn. The evening is being sponsored by Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar, Boiling Springs Savings Bank, and Saddle River Valley Bank.
In addition to the fantastic auction items, this evening will include selections of wines from around the world - provided by Carlo Russo's Wine & Spirit World in Ho-Ho-Kus, as well as food furnished by some of the area's finest restaurants, fun cooking demos, exciting raffles and live music.
Further, two remarkable women will be honored during the evening, Jean Ann Lynch and Linda Yolman. Ms. Lynch, a former Ridgewood resident founded the Baby Basics program in 1994 with support from a team of volunteers from West Side Presbyterian Church. She later developed other programs in Florida and in Massachusetts to provide diapers and formula to working poor families, which in turn has inspired others to set up similar programs in other states. Children's Aid and Family Services coordinates the Baby Basics program, with distribution sites in Ridgewood and Englewood, and helps more than 150 infants and their families each year.
Linda Yolman, of Wyckoff, New Jersey has been a foster mother for 37 years and has opened her home to more than 160 babies. In 1997, she began fostering for Children's Aid and Family Services' Boarder Babies program, in which individuals or families provide foster care for infants whose mothers are unable to care for them for a variety of reasons, including substance abuse and homelessness.
The proceeds from this special event will focus on supporting programs for infants and young children in the agency's care, and will particularly benefit Baby Basics. Tickets for the event are $75. If you would like further information about the event, to become a sponsor, or to purchase tickets, please call Cyndy Mitchell at 201.261.2800.
