Bring HOPE to children in Haiti

(Paramus, NJ) November 8, 2007 - The Youth Advisory Board of Children's Aid and Family Services is proud to present a Thanksgiving concert at Anderson Auditorium (The Unitarian Society) in Ridgewood, on Saturday, November 24, 2007, to support HOPE for the children of Haiti. The Youth Advisory Board consists of a group of adolescents in the agency's care who advocate for themselves and their peers in regard to the foster care system. The group primarily focuses on community service projects and changing policy within the New Jersey foster care system.

Project Hope (Pwoje Espwa) provides education and humanitarian aid to many impoverished children and families in Southern Haiti. Founded by Father Marc Boisvert, a former U.S. Navy chaplain who worked with Haitian refugees in Cuba, and Chaired by Mr. Douglas Dittrick, former and Honorary Board member of Children's Aid and Family Services, Project Hope seeks to alleviate the dehumanizing effects of poverty on the youth of Haiti.

The event begins at 5:30 pm with a reception and exhibition of abstract painting by Marion Jones. After a brief program about Project Hope, Barbara Hoffman and Clark LaMendola will perform the music of Beethoven, Mozart and others as a violin and piano duo, starting at 6:30 p.m. Ms. Hoffman has played the violin since she was a child and is a member of the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra chamber group. She is associated with the New York Post, where she writes and edits stories about theater, opera and family activities. Mr. LaMendola has been playing piano since he was a child and attended Duquesne University School of Music.

A suggested donation for the evening is $25. All donations will directly benefit Project Hope and the care of the children of Pwoje Espwa.

Children's Aid and Family Services is one of the largest regional, nonprofit human services organizations serving northern New Jersey.
