(Paramus, NJ) November 14, 2007 - The United States Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Children's Aid and Family Services of New Jersey with a 2007 Adoption Excellence Award in the "Support for Adoptive Families" category. Children's Aid and Family Services, one of the state's largest regional, nonprofit human services organizations serving northern New Jersey for more than 100 years, has been recognized for the extraordinary contributions it has made in providing adoption and other permanency solutions (such as reunification with other birth family members or with long-term foster parents), for children in foster care.
"It is a privilege to be one of just 15 organizations throughout the country, to receive this award from the United States Department of Health and Human Services," said Bob Jones, PhD, President & CEO of Children's Aid and Family Services, "Our agency is honored to receive national recognition for our determination to provide vulnerable children with permanent homes."
Since 1899, Children's Aid and Family Services has been recognized as a leader in adoption and specialty therapeutic services for children who have been severely traumatized and abused. Staff and volunteers are dedicated to working together to develop and enhance the agency's capacity to provide special needs adoption, early childhood education, foster care, counseling, and other social services to those who are disadvantaged, at-risk or in crisis.
These national awards are presented during November, National Adoption Month; this year, they will be presented to 15 recipients from across the country at a ceremony on December 12 in Arlington, Virginia. The presentation will take place during a luncheon at the Children's Bureau's "Fresh Perspectives on Child Welfare Partnerships" conference, which focuses on bringing together key leaders to strengthen the partnerships that support successful practice with children and families.
