(Ridgewood , NJ) October 5, 2006 - Parenting the Young Child is a seven session series to help families with young children deal with the important issues facing them today. Sessions are scheduled weekly on Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in October, November and December. The week of November 6, a special session will be held on Wednesday. Parents may attend one or more session, or the complete series.ttend. The series includes the following workshops:
- On October 17, Marcia Marra, M.A., will facilitate The Power of No: How Setting Boundaries Benefits Children. This program will cover how setting limits and giving children responsibilities builds self-esteem and self-confidence, as well as strategies for saying no to our children.
- On November 7, Marcia Marra will lead Busy But Balanced: Managing Our Overscheduled Lives. Join other parents in discussing the effects of overscheduling on children and families, and learn strategies for creating a more balanced home and family life.
- On Wednesday, November 8, a very special guest, Edward Callaghan, Ph.D., psychologist and early childhood treatment specialist, will present s The Importance of Play on Brain Development. He will discuss how parents can optimize their child's brain development by encouraging healthy play experiences.
- On November 14, Leandra Blodgett, MSW, LSW will discuss how you can help your child to build and manage friendships, boost self-esteem, increase confidence, improve communication skills, deal with anger and learn better problem-solving skills in her Social Skills Workshop: A Parents' Guide.
- On November 28, Carol Williams, M.A., LPC will lead Setting Limits and Keeping Peace: Positive Discipline that Works. She will teach effective ways to handle misbehavior at home and at school by taking charge, setting limits and disciplining your child in a constructive way.
- On December 5, Garland Allen, Director of Wellness, Ridgewood Public Schools will present Kids and Sports: Making Healthy Choices for Your Children, a workshop that helps parents choose activities for their children that benefit them both socially and developmentally.
- On December 12, Gloia Leder, LCSW, will lead The Myth of the Super Mom. Join other mothers to discuss parenting, balance and today's definition of motherhood
