(Ridgewood , NJ) November 29, 2006 - Families in Transition includes two programs to support parents. Parenting Through Divorce: Making It Better, Not Bitter is a four-session series. A parent may attend one or all sessions. The Single Parent Group meets once a month on a recurring basis.
Gloria Leder, LCSW, director of clinical specialties, facilitates Parenting Through Divorce: Making It Better, Not Bitter, which is a group experience for parents who are in the process of separation, divorce, or have been divorced and are concerned about parenting issues. This group series is designed to reduce tension between parents and enhance flexibility during and after this time of stress. Parents are taught strategies to give their children the opportunity to grow up in a home that prioritizes their healthy development, as well as helps and supports them to adjust to their current situation. The program is on Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. throughout the and winter. The cost is $80 for the four week session series or $25 per session. Please call 201-445-7015 for series start dates.
The Single Parents Group was previously held at the YWCA in Ridgewood, and has been at Children's Aid and Family Services' Ridgewood office since July. It's comprised of informal group discussions concerning raising children on your own. There are regular guest speakers to offer insights on the interests and needs of single parents. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. There is no charge to participate in a Single Parent Group session.
All sessions will be held at 148 Prospect Street, Ridgewood. Please call Marianne Bennett at 201-445-7015 x215 to register for one of the FAMILIES IN TRANSITION programs or for further information.
