Children's Aid and Family Services to Host Wine Tasting Fundraiser at Women's Club of Ridgewood

( Paramus , NJ ) October 27, 2006 - Parents of an infant have a number of new things to provide – clothes, baby seats, bottles, strollers. But most parents in an area as affluent as Bergen County would find it hard to believe that for some families, it's hard to provide the basic necessities, such as diapers and formula, for their babies. And, for a family with multiple births or a single parent with a limited income, it's an everyday struggle.

To that end, on Friday, November 3, at 7:30 p.m., Children's Aid and Family Services is holding a wine tasting fundraiser at the Women's Club of Ridgewood. All proceeds will benefit Baby Basics, a program that provides vitally needed formula and diapers to babies of low-income parents. In addition, it provides education and support through programs and workshops to promote good parenting skills.

Baby Basics typically serves between 60 and 100 Bergen County families per month. Clients are allowed to participate for two years: they receive formula for one year and diapers for two. The program helps those who earn low salaries, but don't meet the requirements for the government program WIC (Women, Infants, and Children).

At the event, a wide array of wines will be offered, giving guests plenty of tastes to satisfy their palettes. In addition, plenty of savory foods and sumptuous desserts have been donated by local eateries for the event. As an extra treat, a silent auction will be held and guests will have a chance to bid on a variety of exciting items donated by area businesses – including electronics, event tickets, and unique experiential and one-of-a kind items.

The event will be held at the Women's Club of Ridgewood, located on 215 West Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood . Tickets are $65 and can be purchased in advance. This event is coordinated by the Baby Basics Steering Committee. Its members are: Caroline Barr, Nancy Bosch, Sally Clark, Pat Hanft, Jan Lescroart, Robyn O'Hagan, Dru Pierce, Erilyn Riley, Kerry Schmitt, Carol Smith, Deborah Turner, Kathryn Wansong, Jean Wilkie, Claire Amorosa, Meta Barrow, Debbie Berman, Dorothy Burns, Angela Hickey, Carolyn Niederman, Rosalie Oliff, Kathleen Poland, Peg Slaven, Barbara Suess, and Janice Walker. For more information on Baby Basics, the wine tasting event, or to order tickets, call Shakeemah Smith, coordinator of Baby Basics, at 201-445-7015.
