(Paramus, NJ) November 5, 2010 - The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources, a program of Children's Aid and Family Services, received a $5,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS (NYSE: UPS). The grant will be used for Keeping Teens Safe, a program that educates and empowers teenagers and their parents on the legal and safety issues surrounding underage drinking and drug use. Keeping Teens Safe will be initially launchedin Ridgewood.
"We're enormously grateful to The UPS Foundation for this generous grant, which enables us to deliver Keeping Teens Safe to teenagers, parents and school administrators," says Ellen Elias, director of The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources and vice president, prevention & addiction services, Children's Aid and Family Services. "The teenage years are often tremendously challenging. With all the pressures that teens have to manage on a daily basis, the opportunities to experiment with drugs and alcohol and engage in other risky behaviors surround them. Even teens who don't drink alcohol can easily find themselves in situations where others are drinking or taking drugs. They need to be prepared so they can make safe, smart decisions. Likewise, parents and school administrators need to continue to understand the world of teenagers and how to keep the lines of communication open. This program enables The Center to provide teens, parents and school administrators with the critical information they need to keep our teens healthy and safe."
