  "Trans-Racial Adoption: Explore the Issues of Raising a Child of a Different Race or Culture"

(Paramus, NJ) February 23, 2010 – For most people thinking about adopting a child of a different race, there are many questions and concerns. To help families get the information they need to make this decision, Children’s Aid and Family Services is presenting “Trans-Racial Adoption: Explore the Issues of Raising a Child of a Different Race or Culture,” at its Family and Adoption Services Center, 148 Prospect Street, Ridgewood, NJ. This free workshop is Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
This workshop will address the issues, impact, and complexities that can arise when a family decides to adopt trans-racially. It will focus on race, culture, identity, self-esteem, as well as racism and prejudice. Through discussion and videos, it aims to assist families to support and educate their children on their culture and heritage. The workshop will be led by Elizabeth Soto and Pauline Poku, both adoption specialists with Children’s Aid and Family Services.

This is part of a series of free workshops that will focus on various aspects of adoption. Upcoming workshops include:
