(Paramus, NJ) April 7, 2010 – Paramus-based Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center, a division of Children's Aid and Family Services, is presenting "No Biting, No Fighting: Dealing with Challenging Behaviors" in partnership with the USA Toy Library Association. This workshop is on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 8:45 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. at 200 Robin Road, Paramus, NJ, and is geared toward both early childhood education professionals and parents of infants through preschoolers.
"The preschool years are vital in laying the foundation for healthy emotional development and for future social and cognitive learning," says Sandy Richards, director of child care services for the Turrell Center."Paying attention to emotional development and behavior during these formative and dynamic years is critically important."
The workshops include "Fill up your toolbox: Practical strategies for dealing with challenging behaviors," which focuses on a wide variety of techniques and approaches to effectively respond to challenging behaviors; "Behavior in the classroom: What might the children's behaviors be telling you?" which details the possible causes for children's behavior and examines potential effective teaching strategies and "Teachables from trashables: Making toys and games that encourage vocabulary, understanding and self-worth." Presenters include Rhoda Redleaf, Teacher, Play Expert and founding member of the USA Toy Library Association Board of Directors; Nina Hillery, Infant, Toddler Specialist; Susan Gellert, MS Ed., Consultant, Early Childhood Education; and Sue Kirchner, Youth Literacy and Outreach Supervisor, Cuyahoga County Public Library Administrative Office, Ohio.
