Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center

100 Special Valentines

Children deliver cards to residents of Dellridge Health and Rehabilitation Center

Anthony and Sean, kindergartners at Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center, deliver a Valentine's Day card to Stella Servas, one of the residents of Dellridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.

(Paramus, NJ) February 11, 2009 – The kindergarten class at Paramus-based Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center recently celebrated the 100th day of school with fun activities that helped them learn to count to 100. They also worked on a project to help instill the even more valuable lesson of giving back. The class made 100 Valentine's Day cards, and four of the children – along with their parents and teachers -- delivered them to some of the residents at Dellridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. The children also spent time talking and singing to the residents, who invited them to come back for another visit.

"It's important that the children, in addition to learning skills such as their letters and numbers, reach out to members of the Paramus community," says Sandy Richards, director of childcare services for the Turrell Center. "We want them to learn how valuable it is to give back to others, and we're grateful to the residents of Dellridge Health and Rehabilitation Center for being so warm and welcoming."

"We value our community, and really see a positive impact in keeping our residents connected to their community, and through our relationship with Turrell Child Care & Early Learning Center, we can continue to keep our seniors involved," says Diane Donahue, director of recreation and volunteer services at Dellridge.
