| (Paramus, NJ) February 5, 2009 – "Friends of Children's Aid and Family Services – Volunteers Making a Difference," a new all-volunteer organization, recently held its launch event at Powerhouse Studios in Paramus, NJ. The "Friends" organization was created to help volunteers feel more connected to the agency, as well as provide education about the agency's programs, help build community awareness and serve as a recruitment vehicle for volunteers.
"Volunteers are critical to what we do, and their efforts help us maintain a high level of service to the vulnerable children and families we serve," says Bob Jones, Ph.D., president & CEO. "We are grateful to those who donate their time and talent, and ask anyone who's not involved with the agency, but has an interest in contributing something meaningful to their community, to learn more about volunteering with us."
To that end, the agency has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities – from mentoring young people to working in a unique gift and craft store, from helping with office mailings to assisting with child care, from teaching computer skills to the elderly to reading to preschoolers, from preparing meals to organizing community drives.
The "Friends" organization also has a social component, and several fun events are planned in 2009, including a volunteer appreciation event, a book signing fundraiser with a well-known author, a cruise around New York City and a holiday party.
