(Englewood, NJ) June 19, 2007 - Children's Aid and Family Services and the Center for Food Action are pleased to announce a new partnership that will benefit low income families in the eastern part of Bergen County. The Englewood distribution center for Children's Aid and Family Services' Baby Basics program has moved to the Center for Food Action, located on 192 West Demarest Avenue.
Baby Basics provides nutritional formula and diapers to low-income families in Bergen County with children 2 and under. Families receive formula for 1 year and diapers for 2 years. The new distribution location in Englewood also offers storage and shelving space to keep supplies of diapers and formula, as well as donated clothing, books, and toys. Eligible families can pick up supplies on the designated evenings, or by appointment. Donations for Baby Basics can be dropped off during the Center for Food Action's regular hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Donations should be clearly labeled for Baby Basics.
"This partnership of the Baby Basics program of Children's Aid and Family Services and the Center for Food Action is an excellent example of two agencies working together to provide the best help possible to the people we serve," says Bob Jones, president & CEO, Children's Aid and Family Services. "Together, we can help significantly more vulnerable members of the community."
"We're thrilled to partner with Children's Aid and Family Services and its Baby Basics program," says Patricia Espy, executive director of the Center for Food Action. "Now we can ensure that more Englewood-area families receive the food and infant essentials they desperately need."
Baby Basics is staffed almost entirely by dedicated community volunteers, and is totally underwritten by philanthropy. The program relies on collection drives spearheaded by local schools, churches, community organizations and individuals. Distribution sites are located in Englewood and Ridgewood. With summer here and schools closed, supplies are dwindling. Both agencies are asking members of the community to consider running drives for food and/or infant supplies, and to make donations during the summer period. Children's Aid and Family Services is also asking individuals and community organizations to sponsor needy infants to ensure they continue to receive the formula and diapers they so desperately need. One week's worth of simple, yet essential supplies costs $71, one month costs $308 and a year costs $3,692. For more information about the Baby Basics program, conducting a drive, or making a donation, please call 201-445-7015 or visit the Children's Aid and Family Services' website at www.cafsnj.org.
Children's Aid and Family Services is one of the largest regional, nonprofit human services organizations serving northern New Jersey.
