(Paramus, NJ) December 18, 2007 - John and Anne Oros, foster parents for Children's Aid and Family Services, recently received a National Family Week (NFW) Advocacy award.
Mr. and Mrs. Oros have been foster parents for Children's Aid and Family Services for eight years, serving as tireless advocates for children with special needs, particularly on behalf of babies born to drug-addicted mothers. Prior to joining the agency, they were a foster family with Bethany Christian Services, an adoption agency in New Jersey, for three years.
Mr. & Mrs. Oros have cared for seven foster children since joining Children's Aid and Family Services, and are currently nurturing an infant and a toddler. They have also adopted one of the infants that was in their care. Further, Mrs. Oros provides support and guidance to new foster families, as well as respite care to their foster children. Mr. Oros has been recently appointed by Governor Corzine to serve on the New Jersey Taskforce on Child Abuse & Neglect. Mrs. Oros also serves on a committee for the New Jersey Department of Children and Families. Mr. & Mrs. Oros are also the parents to three adult children: John, Daniel and Alexandria.
Hundreds of communities across the country celebrated NFW November 18-24, the week of Thanksgiving, a time when many families traditionally celebrate their connections with one another. NFW: Connections Count embraces the premise that children live better lives when their families are strong, and families are strong when they live in communities that connect them to economic opportunities, social networks, and services.
These connections, celebrated during NFW, include access to reliable transportation, employment opportunities, education, child care, housing, health care, and support from community networks and institutions.
The Alliance for Children and Families, a nonprofit membership association representing child and family serving organizations in the US and Canada, has directed NFW efforts for more than 30 years. NFW is supported by The Annie E. Casey Foundation.
Children's Aid and Family Services is one of the largest regional, nonprofit human services organizations serving northern New Jersey. The agency is fully accredited and has served the community for more than 100 years. Its mission is to
preserve, protect and, when needed, provide families. Motivated by compassion for
vulnerable children, young adults, frail elderly and their families, it provides high-quality and innovative services that meet their social, educational and emotional needs. For more information, call 201-261-2800 or visit www.cafsnj.org.
