Hip Hop Legend Partners with Children's Aid and Family Services
On Monday, May 12, 2008, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels visited Children's Aid and Family Services' flagship location at 200 Robin Road in Paramus to announce his partnership with the agency at a press conference. McDaniels, one third of the legendary rap group Run-DMC, is credited with breaking rap into mainstream music in the early 1980s.

McDaniels enthusiastically announced his partnership with the agency, sharing his adoption story with the audience and pledging his commitment to raise awareness of the thousands of children currently in the foster care/adoption system in New Jersey. Afterwards, he did several interviews with the media, recorded audio and video public service announcements, and signed autographs for fans.
McDaniels also spent time speaking children awaiting adoption in the agency's care, encouraging them to succeed, asking them about their interests, and reminding them that, despite their age difference, he was "just like them," having only discovered he was adopted at age 35. The children asked him questions about his life, and to their delight, even got him to rap for them!
"Darryl is an incredibly strong voice for the children in the agency's care," says Bob Jones, Ph.D., President & CEO, Children's Aid and Family Services. "We're thrilled to have him on our team."
