About The Depot
The Depot was established by just a few volunteers in 1965 in the baggage room of the Ridgewood Railroad Station for the purpose of raising funds to benefit Family Counseling Service in Ridgewood, a member of the Children's Aid and Family Services family. After expanding three times, The Depot, in 1980, moved to its present location, a seven-room house in Midland Park. As a result of the tremendous contribution of both time and talents by hundreds of volunteers, The Depot has grown into the largest all-volunteer woman's exchange in the country! Over the years these efforts have resulted in donations to Family Counseling Service totaling over $1.5 million!

The Depot's Mission
The mission of The Depot is three-fold. Of utmost importance to our volunteers is the continued financial support of Family Counseling Service. In providing an outlet for the art and handiwork of our crafters, many of whom are senior citizens, The Depot offers these crafters the opportunity to earn extra income. Lastly, The Depot provides a warm and cheerful place for women to meet, make new friends, and use and develop their talents while feeling a sense of accomplishment in their service to the community.

Unique Gifts and Crafts
Think of The Depot when you need something special for your home or garden. Our buyers have found just the right variety of items so that you can find a unique and very special gift that is perfect for every occasion.

Our unique crafts are even more precious because many of them are handmade by creative crafters - from artwork and wreaths to holiday ornaments and more. Every piece is original.

The joys of entertaining are appreciated at The Depot. We offer beautiful and unique hostess gifts and a variety of items to enhance your home style. Centerpieces, tableware, cookbooks, and special touches can help make the moment!

The second floor of The Depot is devoted entirely to children's items - baby shower gifts, handsmocked clothing, quilts, stuffed animals, handmade toys and more.

How to Volunteer
We are a gift and craft shop staffed entirely by volunteers. We would like you to join us! Most volunteers work a 3 1/2 hour shift every other week - if you can call it work!! Most call it fun because they enjoy seeing the new items come in, meeting regularly with their friends, and meeting and helping people!
